Martine Dedek, owner and Pilates, Yamuna Body Rolling, and SPRe Body Work practitioner at Studio Evolve in SeattleWhen Martine began her career as a movement instructor in 2000, she quickly noticed that some physical tension patterns had an emotional aspect to them that could not be addressed without deeper work. Martine’s experience as an instructor as well as her own experience as a client, led her to obtain her certification as a SPRe Bodywork Practitioner. She now helps her clients understand the connection between body and mind by guiding them towards recognizing the emotional patterns that impact their bodies.

Martine is currently pursuing a Certificate in Advanced Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute as well as her certification in GYROTONIC® Instruction. She is also certified in SPRe Bodywork, Pilates and Yamuna Body Rolling and has attended numerous workshops in Advanced Myofascial Techniques and anatomy.

Karen spends most of her time spiraling, spinning and reaching her way through space. Now she is fulfilling all of those needs as a Level 1 GYROTONIC® Instructor. Karen graduated with a BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts (Seattle, WA) in 2006 and has been teaching and performing throughout the Northwest ever since. She finds great joy and dedication in helping people understand their full range of motion while building strength and flexibility. She most recently expanded her repertoire to include a Certification on the Jumping Stretching Board. Karen is excited to be a part of the talented team at Studio Evolve.

LINDSEY BURKE

Hoping to strengthen her ballet technique and rehabilitate a hip injury, Lindsey began her journey in the GYROTONIC® work in 2001 under the mentorship of Magali Messac at GYROTONIC® Seattle. Lindsey experienced such positive results in her overall strength and flexibility that she has been a passionate advocate of the GYROTONIC® work ever since. In 2004 she earned her GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® certification and she continues to learn everyday from her rich community of teachers, colleagues and most of all, her clients of all ages and fitness levels. Lindsey finds inspiration in helping people to find awareness of their bodies, clarity in their understanding of the GYROTONIC® work and most of all joyfulness while moving.

Lindsey is a Level 1 GYROTONIC® Pre-trainer and Level 1 GYROKINESIS® Pre-Trainer. She has completed courses in GYROTONIC® Therapeutic Applications for the Pelvic Girdle, Shoulder Girdle and Scoliosis with Paul Horvath, as well as Applications for Breast Cancer Survivors, Pre and Post Natal with Leda Franklin, and in 2009 completed GYROTONIC® Level 2 Teacher Training with Juliu Horvath. In 2007, she earned her Bachelors Degree from the UW in Applied Anatomy and Body Perception and continues to be fascinated by the potential of the human body and spirit.

Lynn is 65 years old, and came to exercise and movement at a late time in her life. Happily she found the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® . She challenged herself, and to her surprise and delight, found that she was able to both enjoy and benefit from exercise. She has become healthier and more active. Celeste believes a balanced body is essential to maintaining an active and energetic lifestyle. A certified Stott Pilates instructor with Celeste Caliri, Pilates Instructor additional training in injuries and special populations, Celeste grew up in Hawaii where swimming, surfing and long distance running was a part of her everyday life.

Celeste has been a dedicated practitioner of Stott Pilates and student Ashtanga Yoga for over 10 years. Initially, Pilates and yoga helped her to improve her posture and flexibility. She later found unexpected benefits in her training: increased strength, an improved breath pattern and injury prevention – all things she strives to share with her clients. Celeste focuses on alignment, balance and strength to help people function more effectively in their everyday life.

Celeste believes that, just as in building a house, strengthening the body has to start from the ground up; building endurance with good alignment can keep anyone active and doing the things they love.

HANNAH KOGAN

Hannah has been teaching Pilates since 2001. She is certified through Symmetry Studios in Gainesville, FL and has taught in a variety of locations including Vitality Pilates here in Seattle. Hannah has recently completed an Ortho-Bionomy program, a form of manual body therapy, in Albuquerque, NM.

Hannah tells us that she regards Pilates as a form of sustainable exercise that when taught well can be highly transformative for dealing with chronic pain and tension patterns as well as to improve overall strength and health. She helps clients to focus on body-awareness and teaches then to tap into their body’s internal wisdom. Her background in dance, as well as her studies and experience with Ortho-Bionomy, have influenced her teaching as well. Hannah found Pilates while she was dealing with a ballet-related back injury twelve years ago, after many failed attempts to heal through physical therapy, chiropractors, and massage. She utilizes Pilates as a way to heal and integrate the body and mind.

Dina holds a BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School and an MFA in dance performance/choreograhy. Dina has been dancing, teaching and choreographing for over twenty years and was the co-founder/artistic director of LEAVING GROUND/DANCE, a contemporary dance company. She came to train intensively in Pilates following a knee injury in 2001. A year later, Dina completed the STOTT Instructor training program. She enjoys partnering with clients in their process of finding health, fitness and wellness. In her free time, Dina enjoys travel, yoga, biking, hiking and snowshoeing.

Joanna Schade, Pilates Instructor at Studio Evolve in SeattleKnown for the sense of fun she brings to Pilates, Joanna helps her clients reach their goals in a playful atmosphere. She enjoys tailoring her sessions to suit any circumstance – preventing or healing injuries, enhancing flexibility or achieving greater body awareness. Joanna became interested in Pilates when pursuing relief from her own back and neck pain. Joanna received her Pilates certification from Mind and Body, Inc. in 2004 and two years later added Yamuna Body Rolling to her repertoire.

After growing up in Buffalo, New York and attending Muskingum College in Ohio, Joanna moved to Seattle where she has made her home for the last 11 years. When not teaching Pilates, she can be found surfing, biking and hiking throughout the Northwest.

SUZANNE SINGLA

Suzanne trained with Columbia Dance Ensemble, Oregon Ballet Theatre School and Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, where she received a Certificate of Dance. She performed professionally with dance ensembles in Oregon, New York and South Africa. Her teaching credits include faculty positions at Connecticut Dance Theatre, School at Steps and Ballet Hispanico and currently teaches ballet and Pilates at Pacific Northwest Ballet. For many years, Pilates has been an integral part of Suzanne’s training and helped her recover from a back injury in 2003. She became inspired to become a Pilates instructor and completed her training through STOTT Pilates in Seattle. Suzanne is passionate in helping clients reach their goals and discover dramatic results through Pilates.

SOPHIA WALKER

Sophia comes from an athletic background of running, rock climbing, speed skating and downhill skiing. She discovered Pilates in 2004 as a holistic method to treat her own back pain. She began working with a talented Pilates instructor in Ketchum, Idaho and quickly found that her body was changing — becoming more stable, free and strong. Since then, her interest in movement and dedication to Pilates has deepened.

Sophia has completed the STOTT Pilates instructor training program in Mat, Advanced Mat and Reformer, and received her certification in 2009. She loves introducing new clients to Pilates and the joys of a more active, balanced lifestyle. Sophia also enjoys working with athletes to help increase performance and reduce the risk of injury. She is passionate about helping people realize balance, freedom of movement and increased self awareness, as well as a sense of ownership of this process.

Josh Spell trained at the School of American Ballet in New York City. Although raised in Beaumont, TX, he moved to Seattle to join the Pacific Northwest Ballet as member of the corps de ballet in 2001 and danced with the Company until June 2011.

As a ballet dancer, cross training was an important part of maintaining a healthy body.  Yoga, strength training, and Pilates were all important, but Pilates is what made the most difference for Josh. After practicing Pilates for over a decade, Josh is eager to share his knowledge with others. With proper training and breathing Pilates can achieve a balanced body that is strong and flexible. Josh is excited to be teaching at Studio Evolve. He is also a full-time design student at Cornish College of the Arts.
