How Ruth healed postpartum pain and gained confidence in her body again

“When I joined Studio Evolve, I was over a year postpartum and still experiencing a lot of discomfort in my pelvic floor and S.I. joint. While I was healed medically, I did not feel fully recovered.

“My PT referred me to Studio Evolve because she thought it would be a good fit for me, and I’m so thankful she did. I knew I wanted to get into group classes eventually, but started with private sessions with Marisha.

“Marisha has an incredible depth of knowledge about postpartum recovery and the pelvic floor, and her personal approach and sensitivity were exactly what I needed.

“Although I had been very adherent to my PT program, I had hit the limits of what it could help me do. After my work with Marisha, I felt like I was at last really rebuilding my core, and within a few months felt much more confident in my ability to move my body.”

Before her pregnancy, Ruth was very active - she did Pilates, yoga, or CrossFit almost daily - and physical activity was an important part of how she took care of her mental health.

So when, a year after giving birth, she was still extremely limited in how she could use her body, it was a devastating place to be.

“Everyone feels like kind of like jelly after they have a baby! I had been hopeful that because I had already been doing Pilates and had an awareness of my core, my postpartum recovery would be smooth, but that’s not how it was for me. I had injuries and had been to rehab and I was forty when I gave birth. The whole thing just took longer. ” says Ruth.

Working with Marisha helped Ruth rebuild strength and confidence in her body, and after just a few weeks of private sessions she felt comfortable adding a group Reformer class to her routine. Three months later, she transitioned fully to group classes.

Pilates at Studio Evolve helped Ruth find comfort and strength in her body, and it also helped her get back to the regular movement practice that is so important to her mental health. Two years later, she still joins us for classes weekly.

“Although I’ve been doing Pilates for a long time, my experience at Studio Evolve has given me a more nuanced understanding of truly how much Pilates can be modified and approached from different angles,” says Ruth.

“Seeing the range of folks who are in class with me has shown me that everyone has an in. Almost ANY injury can be worked through with Pilates.”
