3 Ways Pilates can help you run, hike, or walk with comfort and ease

Jill Mattern, our newest Pilates teacher, loves helping folks improve their functional strength and mobility…

Whether you’re a runner who wants to improve your performance or you’d just like to be able to stroll around your neighborhood more comfortably, Pilates can help!

Here are three ways Pilates can help you run, hike, or walk with comfort and ease.

1. A strong, functional core protects your back, knees, ankles and hips.

Pilates strengthens your core - which includes your abdominals, your back muscles, your diaphragm, and your pelvic floor - and a strong core is the key to stabilizing your spine and protecting your joints. It’s a great way to prevent injuries and ease aches and pains!

2. A regular Pilates practice can help correct postural imbalances. Over time, you’ll learn to turn on sleepy muscles and relax muscles that are overworking. This helps prevent overuse injuries AND improve performance!

3. You’ll improve your proprioception. That’s your ability to perceive tension levels, muscular engagement, pain, and pleasure in your own body.

Pilates can help you improve your proprioception so you get clearer information from your body - and your body can TELL you when it needs you to take a break, drink more water, have a snack, change your shoes, or slow down. Then, your job is to listen!

Our newest Pilates teacher, Jill Mattern, is a passionate outdoor enthusiast who LOVES helping her Pilates clients improve their functional strength and mobility so that they can continue to enjoy the great outdoors as they age.

She enjoys working with folks of every fitness level and every life stage.

“Whether you are looking to hike, paddle, stroll, run, or sit in peace, I’d love to help you get back in tune with your body!” says Jill.
